Understanding Network Security-in Plain English

Have you ever wondered how the emails you send, the chats that you do daily, and in whatever form you communicate over a network—be the Internet or the Local Area network in your organization—is made secure?
But what exactly do you intend to mean when you say that you want your “communication” or “interaction” to be ‘secure’? There is more to security than you might think. Not only do you want that the messages you are sending are received exactly, without any tampering in between, or that the absolutely correct and desired receiver gets the message, but also that if there is some “eavesdropping” in between, then you should be able to detect it.
