Microsoft’s Silverlight is said to have features and capabilities which can surpass those provided by the HTML5 standard (which is yet to be fully completed). As applications like Silverlight and Flash provided users with Internet applications which enriched their experience, there had considerable speculations and debate over whether the completion of the HTML5 specification would end up with the doing away of such applications, as the need for them might not be felt then.
